Amsterdam-based sneaker giant Filling Pieces and couturier Ronald van der Kemp have announced a new collaboration, a limited edition range of sustainable sneakers.
The Dutch brands aim to merge the urban styling of Filing Pieces with the couture sensibility of RVDK and unveiled the collection at haute couture in Paris this week at van der Kemp's runway presentation.
Consisting of three styles, the sneakers are constructed using leftover leather, fabric and trims from Filling Pieces archives, remade and reworked on soles from existing moulds. Ronald van der Kemp’s pursuit of working with repurposed materials explores sustainable ways of fashion businesses working together, challenging the status quo of the seasonal product lifecycle and finding a sustainable solution to dealing with excess materials and stock, a problem all fashion brands face in the era of ‘fast’ fashion.
The collaboration features three unique sneaker styles including a 'space sneaker' with organic shaped edge in metallic leather leather and neoprene mesh, a high top combat sneaker boot and preppy sandal with tassels.
Officially called Filling Pieces x RVDK Ronald van der Kemp, the collaboration is due to hit select retailers in early 2019.
