Six sunglasses trends for SS27: from aviator and oval frames to the classic cat-eye

As summer draws to a close, we are already looking ahead to spring/summer 2027, where sunglasses trends are once again shifting towards distinctive silhouettes. With the return of shapes from the seventies and nineties, sunglasses define the feel of a look just as much as a bag or a belt.

Oval silhouettes

The oval frame is one of the key silhouettes of the season, appearing in two distinct versions. The chunky variant offers a bold, striking look, such as a dark brown frame with brown lenses and a sand-coloured model with blue lenses. In contrast, the small oval features a narrow, minimalist frame, seen in a black model with amber lenses and various tortoiseshell-print designs. These two oval silhouettes allow for an easy transition between subtle and statement styles.

Aviator and aviator D shape

The aviator remains a staple, appearing for SS27 mainly in warm, translucent colours. HVEG showcases an orange transparent frame with amber lenses; a sage green model with orange-brown lenses; and a black, matte model with grey lenses. Alongside the classic aviator, the D-shape makes a comeback. This frame features a flat bottom and a slightly more rounded line, such as an amber model with gradient lenses. The soft colour palette makes the silhouette appear less severe than the classic black or gold aviator.

Shields

The shield silhouette is the most pronounced addition to the collection. Wide, single-piece lenses dominate this style, creating a look that is both sporty and futuristic. Its curved fit ensures the frame contours to the shape of the face. HVEG presents a sand-coloured model with a gradient lens; a sporty white version with a mirrored green-blue lens; and a black variant with deep red-coloured lenses. These sunglasses work best as a standalone statement, paired with either a sporty or a sleek outfit.

Classic cat-eye

The cat-eye returns in a softer, less angular version. The upswept corners remain its trademark. However, compared to the sharp cat-eye of the fifties, the lines are now rounder and more gentle. HVEG offers the silhouette in an amber frame with green lenses; a beige version; and a lilac, translucent model with grey lenses. The style pairs well with both casual and formal looks.

Round sunglasses

The thin, round frame has made a comeback, aligning with the broader trend towards minimalist metal frames. HVEG develops the silhouette in precious metal-like tones, including a grey-blue gradient model, a purple-tinted frame, and a classic gold version with a grey lens. The silhouette has a deliberately understated appearance but also complements a playful look.

SS27 sunglasses colour trends

HVEG identifies four key colour directions: 'Nature Based Green', featuring shades from olive to emerald; 'Blue Hues', ranging from steel blue to light pastels; 'Punchy Pinks', with fresh pink gradients; and 'Warm Earth Tones', including orange, terracotta, and brown shades that evoke a summer holiday atmosphere. These colours are featured across almost every silhouette, from the aviator to the cat-eye, allowing buyers to offer a single style in multiple colourways. In addition to these colours, tortoiseshell and mixed metals also return as key finishes, incorporated into nearly every silhouette.
