SS27 Double denim trend at Conner Ives, Zimmermann and more

The rise of double denim and head-to-toe denim looks was a defining feature of the SS27 ready-to-wear runways, as highlighted by several industry sources. Across the global SS27 fashion circuit, denim accounted for an average of 7 percent of all runway looks, according to T-Fashion, driven largely by coordinated sets and tailored denim separates.

Affectionately known as the ‘Canadian tuxedo’, the trend gained significant momentum during the SS27 menswear collections before carrying through into the womenswear shows.

As reported at the time by FashionUnited, styling matching denim tops and bottoms offers designers an opportunity to demonstrate to retail buyers and store staff how individual pieces can be merchandised and sold together as a coordinated look, encouraging a more complete, multi-item purchase rather than a single-item sale.

A range of washes and weights could be seen for jackets, jeans, skirts and other items. Decoration came in the form of stencils, embroidery and even feathers.

Zimmermann SS27
