What you need to know about the British Fashion Awards 2015

Although some may question whether the British Fashion Awards have lost their lustre, others see the award ceremony as one of the highlights of the British fashion calender. Set to honour the UK's brightest and most succesful designers, influencers and leaders, the annual event aims to celebrate established and emerging talents within the fashion industry.

Three winners have already been revealed by the British Fashion Council, who orchestrates the annual event. Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele has been named the International Fashion Designer of the Year, Chanel's and Fendi's creative director Karl Lagerfeld is to receive the 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award and British photographer Nick Knight will be given the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator. But who is to go home with the other awards? FashionUnited lists the top 11 facts you should know ahead of the British Fashion Awards 2015.

1. 45 nominees have been named for the event tonight, which will see 16 winners...

2. ...a slight decreased from the 63 nominees and 17 winners honoured at the 2014 British Fashion Awards.

3. Christopher Kane, who is nominated for the Red Carpet Award and Womenswear Designer of the Year Award this year, already has four BFA under his belt, including Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2013 and the New Establishment Award in 2011.

4. Over 800 leading industry heads from across the globe were asked to vote this year...

5. ​ ...which is three quarters more than the number of industry members asked to vote in 2013.

Over 6,000 members of the general public voted for the British Style Awards which includes nominees such as actor Benedict Cumberbatch, actor, Eddie Redmayne and singer Florence Welch...

7 . ​2,130 will be watching the ceremony tonight from the audience, which is set to take place at the London Coliseum for the third consecutive year .

8 . ​The combined weight of the British Fashion Award Crystal Trophies by Swarovski is said to be over 15 kilograms...

9 . ...with over 12 kilograms of loose Swarovski Crystals being used to create the British Fashion Award Logo featured on the red carpet...

10. ...with this year's Award Ceremony marking the 9th anniversary of Swarovski sponsorship of the BFA.

11. And with 10,000 images shared on Instagram during the 2014 British Fashion Awards using the hashtag #BFA, this year's ceremony aims to garner even more attention online by sharing behind the scenes footage via Snapchat.
