Amazon Local, the website where the e-tailer sells daily deals, will be shut down as of 18 december 2015. The matching app which functions alongside the website will also cease to exist.

Amazon Local offers customers the chance to buy products and services at a discounted price using a voucher system which can be redeemed at a time of choice. News of the website shut-down does not come as a surprise as other websites which offer daily deals are said to be suffering from flagging sales and a lack of interest according to Business Insider.

“We have learned a great deal from the daily deals business and will look for ways to apply these lessons in the future as we continue to innovate on behalf of our customers and merchants,” commented a spokesman for Amazon on Geekwire. Amazon Local was launched in 2011 in collaboration with Living Social. Although the platform will no longer be online after December 18, customers who purchase vouchers before that time will still be able to redeem them in the future.
