Fashion chain H&M is to upsize its store at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, to create a new 40,000 square foot flagship.

Land Securities has confirmed that the new flagship will incorporate an additional 15,000 square foot of space and that the building work is to talk place over Bluewater’s central service yard and will give H&M an extended upper floor and mezzanine.

The extension is set to be open in November and H&M has confirmed that it will remain trading womenswear from the ground floor while the works are carried out. In addition, the retailer has also taken a unit on Bluewater’s lower Thames Walk, adjacent to House of Fraser, as a short-term menswear store.

Russell Loveland, portfolio director at Land Securities, co-owner and asset manager of Bluewater, said: “Upsizing H&M to create a new statement store has been an objective for some time, as we work to ensure our key brands trade from stores that reflect Bluewater’s position in the industry. H&M’s new store will deliver a great experience for our guests and is a fantastic start to 2016.”

This is the latest in a series of upsizes at Bluewater, Next opened a new 44,000 square foot store on Thames Walk after spending 10 months extending its two-storey store, and Topshop has added an 18,000 extension to create a 30,000 square foot store on the upper Rose Gallery.

Earlier this month H&M confirmed that it will also open a flagship store in Langley Court, Covent Garden in London later this year.
