Sales Saturday and Frenzied Friday are the stuff of retail dreams, as shoppers flock to the high street, department stores, malls and supermarkets in the last week before Christmas.
December 17 was dubbed Sales Saturday, as retailers began heavily discounting end of season products as shoppers were keen to source bargains that were either not online or that would not be delivered in time.
Spending was predicted to top 3.5 billion pounds on Saturday which equates to 450,000 pounds a minute, as some stores extended opening hours from 9am to 10pm. According to the Mail on Sunday the sales frenzy is expected to bring a rise of 27 per cent in the number of shoppers compared to a normal Saturday, topping Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
This coming Friday, December 23, has been dubbed Frenzied Friday as it will be the busiest day of the year for supermarkets and those getting last minute gifts.
According to the Guardian an estimated 10 million people are expected to hit supermarket aisles. Calculations are that shopping is set to peak on the day when many receive their December pay cheque. It is estimated shoppers will spend 894 million pounds or 865,158 pounds a minute, on food, drink and gifts.
